The ENSPICE Children’s Foundation (ECF) was founded upon the simple principle that inadequate nutrition in children is a global health problem with protean implications. While on a medical mission trip to Antananarivo Madagascar with Operation Small Steps and Echoes of Madagascar it was discernable to Dr. Frederick T. Murphy that malnutrition and micronutrient deficiency was a primal barrier to healthcare for children in developing nations. To further study and assess the nutritional needs of children in developing nations Dr. Murphy, his children, Kyle and Kaitlyn traveled to Tactic a municipality in the Guatemalan department of Alta Verapaz. This experience underscored the global nature of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiency.
Upon returning to the United States, Kyle Murphy along with his father embarked upon an ambitious plan to create a micronutrient fortification product for children in developing nations. This product is now called ENSPICE. ENSPICE is the cornerstone to the ECF’s three-phase sustainability plan to combat malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies in developing nations and within the United States
